Holiday!

Submitted by TiM on

We're going away this weekend for a few days. We're going to Whitianga which is pronounced something like "Fit-e-ang-ah" or something. I can never pronounce these names properly. Regardless of the name it should be quite nice, I hope the weather holds out on us, it will suck if it rains the whole time! I won't jinx it by saying that though.

Lots of stuff has been happening in Prophecy world! Nothing concrete or offical yet but things are looking farily promising. Mostly the last week or so I've been studying up on new stuff, been down at the Auckland City Library a few times studying my little brain off. It's werid to go back to books, reading and writing notes, highlighting stuff. I feel like a student all over again! I guess I am though, I will be having an exam (or probably more than one) at the end...

Upgrade Nightmares

Submitted by TiM on

Hello peoples! I've been trying to upgrade my site the last couple of days to a new version of the software that runs it. It really doesn't play nicely though so I think I'm going to totally scrape this software that I use. It works but it's kinda dated now, all the themes available for it are crap (apart from this one) with tiny writing.

The big dilemma of course is, if I run some new software, trying to get all the data (5 years worth!) into the new system. Not easy to do.

Enough ranting about techo stuff anyway, it doesn't really matter as long as some words come out in the end!

Had a good weekend, got my hair done. I'd give you a photo but the digital camera's not here and I tried to redo my hair this morning with the gel and now it looks stupid...

Happy Birthday Chirpus!

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Birthday to the Chirpus! We've had him one year now. He's currently in the bottom of his cage humping his favourite hump toy.

Chirpus having a rest from being a little turd.

Not much else happening, there's a few interesting business things in the works that I can't really say anything about. I'm hoping it pans out though cause it'd be really cool! It's travel overseas, I guess I can say that much.

Best wishes to Helen if you're reading this, her baby is due today!

That's all - Tim

Thank You

Happy Birthday to Tim!

Submitted by Sarah on

Happy Birthday dear!

Tim is 29 today. Even though I have already purchased him a number of lovely gifts, I thought I'd post a random list of his achievements in this past year...

So here goes. In no particular order:

1) Freeing an animal from it’s UV lit hell at the pet shop
2) Managing to get pet Oscar to fall in love (lust?) with him
3) Going on his first long haul flight for work
4) Being headhunted
5) Wearing his first pair of trendy jeans
6) Walking over the San Fransisco bridge
7) Completing the Auckland 10km
8) Moving house 3 times
9) Winning Network Support person of the year
10) Voting in a national election

A pretty good year really!

Love you lots and lots Tim.

Nearly There

Hi people. We are out shopping at the moment, I am sitting on a bench in Queen St. I'm being geeky again and typing this entry in via my phone.

Speaking of phones, Vodafone just launched their shiny new 3G network. Basically it means highspeed data and video calls. I don't think much of it, but thats what I thought of texting too...

What it does mean is lots and lots of people have been asking me to rebrand their mobile phones - Some of the new VF featues don't work with an unbranded phone. I can't do it though, I don't have the necessary files... yet.

Gary came over Friday night, we played some pool, some playstation and just stuffed around. Yesterday Sarah and I had these grand plans to do stuff but we ended up sleeping the day away, whoopsie!

That's all, time to get off the bench...

I'm Just Sitting Here Watching My Smalls Go Round And Round

Submitted by TiM on

(*sung to the tune of John Lennon's song)

Hello people, I'm sitting here in the K-Road Laundromat watching my smalls go round and round in the dryer. It's not very exciting but it's better than taking 20 years to do it in my apartment's machine.

Not much has been happening as you can probably tell from the lack of updates. I've been onsite at a customer's premises for the last 3 days, today was a really early start just like the good ol' days at TelstraClear!

I had to remove some faulty hardware and run diagnostic checks on it. Of course when I removed the card that is ment to be fully hot-swappable (ie you can remove it without causing impact) the whole of the customers network turned off. So not really very hot-swappable! A bit of quick thinking - turning the box off and on again - soon had...

Mmmm The Food!

Submitted by TiM on

Went to the Auckland Food thing today... Forget what it's name actually was but basically you walked around a billion stalls tasting their samples. Small samples. Which is annoying because some of them were so tasty I just wanted to stuff my face with them! But we had a good time though, I was starving when I arrived and not hungry at all when we left.

Got my modchip installed in my PS2 today - Now magically copied games from the game copying fairy work in my playstation. Of course, I'm only use it to backup my games, honest officer.

SPCA yesterday was really cool, great to be out there again after such a long period of time. It was the usual crowd of cool people who I get on really well with, along with one girl who "usually does the morning roster". Well I pity the poor morning roster...

Clerks

Submitted by TiM on

So this weeks achievements include learning how to copy DVDs directly. I went and hired a bunch of my favourite movies from the video store inlcuding my all-time favourite movie Clerks. I know that copying movies is wrong blah blah but hey, they wouldn't sell blank DVDs if they didn't want you to use them now, would they? Plus it's not like my copy is as good as the one from the video store, you still have to use compression and other tricks to fit a movie that's X size onto a disc that's Y size, where Y is a lot smaller than X.

Back onsite today to a customer to do some testing. It started out as a bit of a nightmare, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. Thankfully I am able to think pretty well under pressure and managed to get most things up...

Moofie Night

Submitted by TiM on

We went to see the movie The Wedding Crashers tonight, Sarah managed to score us free tickets from her work. I thought it was going to be one of those movies where the only funny bits were already in the previews. But it was really good, mostly funny with only a little bit of love crap in it.

The funniest thing was a song they played before the movie - These boots were mde for walking. The filmclip is trying to be sexy and stuff, but it ends up looking like a lame porno. If you've seen it you'll know what I mean. Everyone was laughing by the end of the filmclip. Lame!!!

We are going swimming again tomorrow morning, Sarah is doing her proper swimming lessons, I'm just going to flounder around again. It's good fun though.

We'll that's enough for this update, I'm updating by typing into my...
