Moving and Moving!

Submitted by TiM on

I moved all my data from the old server (which was a crappy Sun box) to my brand new server that's now been installed in SafeNZ down in Napier. Thanks again Tony and SafeNZ for hosting it!
As well as playing computers and moving stuff around, I've also been packing up all my stuff into lovely boxes ready for the move into the new place on the weekend. I've got 4 boxes packed so far and I guess I'll probably get another 2 boxes packed with stuff before I'm ready to walk out the door.

Driving back from Napier yesterday was pretty rough sometimes, there was some really bad rain a few times and we had to slow right down. We would have actually pulled over apart from the bit of road we were on had no real area to pull over. We made it back safe n sound, Oscar...

The Last Few Days!

Submitted by TiM on

I've been having such a good time down here in Sunny Napier that I haven't really bothered to get out my laptop that many times, let alone be stuffed to put a decent entry in.

Christmas day was great, as was boxing day. We've done a bunch of fun things, a bit of shopping, lots of lying around in the sun. I've had a good chance to play some of my cool PlayStation games (we're on holidays after all!) and really we've had a fantastic time. Today I went over to Tony and Paula's place for some of Tony's famous ribs. Now I know why they're world famous (in New Zealand at least)

Yesterday we went to the local dolphin park and saw the dolphin show which, while not super flashy was still good to go and see. The breed of dolphin they have are only supposed to live a...

Down In Napier

We made it to Napier without any problems! Oscar didn't seem to mind the car ride either, we stopped 3-4 times to check on him but he'd let out the odd chirp now and then to let us know he was Ok. When we arrived though he was clinging onto his perch for dear life, the last 1 hour into Napier is full of lots of sharp corners.

Haven't done too much since we got here, mostly taken it easy. It's been really windy so it's not much fun outside. Yesterday we helped Sarah's parents paint some offices they're renting out, today we went to the local farmers market then up to the pub for lunch. I've just been doing a bit of maintence work on Sarah's parents computer (removing crap, making it run faster etc) and then after that I'm not sure what I'm going to do! I love...

Pizza Pizza

Last night we went with a whole bunch of Sarah's workmates and their friends to Pizza Pizza, a well known local Pizza place. They had a "all you can eat and drink for $40" deal going, all we had to do was provide between 20 and 40 people. I guess there must have been about 30 people there so it was an excellent turn out.
We did a secret Santa thing, the rule was you had to "make it or already own it" which made it interesting. I gave the person I was allocated (who I didn't really know) a book entitled "How to be a complete Bastard" and I was give a kit to re-align my allegiances to New Zealand containing a NZ Rubgy banner thing, a glo-stick and (weridly enough) 2 Scotch Whiskey flavoured condoms.
Later in the night we had to try and guess who'd given us...

Stupid Newspaper

Read this and tell me why we need to be told twice exactly the same thing, that they had to drink their urine? Ok sure it's gross, but they just repeat it. Fek I hate the media. [Edit: Prehaps it's just because it's the summary of the article, but still...]

I'm currently still working, doing a migration for Prophecy from the server we all use to different one, while we upgrade the main one. It's quite complex but while I type this I'm just waiting for some lengthy commands to complete. It's not quite as stressful as working on my customers network but it's pretty damn close! I'm still too used to the TelstraClear mindset though, if it breaks for more than about 10 seconds you're going to get torn a new one. Here if it breaks for about 12 hours then people might start to get a little annoyed...

Moving On!

Moving time again! This time Sarah and I have decided to move in together, we went looking on the weekend (Sarah's feeling much better now) and found a cool little place not too far from where I live. It's a stand alone house with a nice little shed out the back that can be used for an office or anything else (a PS2 room prehaps) that takes my fancy. It has a huge backyard and lots of grass, it even has (crazily enough) a wood fired pizza oven! I think when I looked at it that it was screwed shut, but I didn't really have a close look so it might have just been a cover/protector thing.

So that'll be cool, it'll be just after Christmas that I move, not sure when Sarah will be joining me. Not too far behind I don't think, though I guess it depends on...

Hello and welcome to Tim's Diary running on a totally new program!
It's taken a while to get here, mostly because it's been very hard to import all the data from the old site to the new one. Finally though with the help of others on the 'net I've done it. All the old stories and comments are here, as are all the old users so you can login with your same username and password.

Lots of old (unimportant) stuff isn't here anymore, but slowly over time I'll be readding most of it (the stuff worth keeping)

Apologies that it's quite bland and ugly - There's not really many pretty themes for Drupal (program I'm now using) at the moment. If you log into your account you can test out the 5 or so different ones available.

That's all, enjoy!

Poor Sarah

Submitted by TiM on

Poor Sarah is fast asleep in bed today, she went to the Dr yesterday because she was feeling a bit funny and the Dr told her she had a really bad ear and throat infection and has it for a probably 3-4 weeks! She's got some magical pills now so hopefully she'll be back and feeling better soon.

Tonight I'm going to have some drinks with my old TelstraClear mates, both myself and Matt (who left shortly after me) will be there, along with Neil, Helgi, Dave etc. Should be good!

Work is keeping me really busy, lots on. Mostly of late I have been on the phone and email trying to get answers for my customer about their network problems, the case has dragged on a number of weeks now and understandably they're getting a little frustrated. I keep telling them "Trust me, I KNOW how you feel" but...
