Ticket Mania

Submitted by TiM on

Finally got my hands on our U2 tickets last night. Not sure if I've mentioned this already but I forgot to change the address for the U2 tickets to be sent to, so $800 worth of tickets was sent to my old K-Road address! I rang them up when I realised this was about to happen, but they told me that the tickets had already been sent. Last week I went around to the old place and using some specialst tools (needlenose plyers and a plastic ruler snapped in half) and managed to get the mail out of the mail box. Nothing for me though and after all that effort! So I left a little note in the mailbox saying I was the old tennant and I was expecting some important mail and I'd be over next week to collect it.
It wouldn't have really mattered anyway, because they're A...

Teeth Fixed + Making Stuff To Rot Your Teeth.

Submitted by TiM on

Went back to the dentist today for my teeth cut 'n' polish and my filling. First of all was the teeth cleaning and that was very straight forward and painless, until she asked me how often I flossed. She kept pretending she couldn't hear me when I said "never". I always thought flossing was just some crap that colgate made up, but it seems that dentists actually do want you to floss. Who'd have thought?

Next up was Mr Dentist and that really wasn't too bad either. A quite jab for the local and the whole area was pretty numb for the little Bzzzzzt drill to come out and do its thing. Then the filling and it was all over. It was a lot quicker than I thought it'd be.

I got the dentist to fill out my Insurance pre-approval form while I was there, hopefully if it all goes...

Making That Sweet, Sweet Beer.

Submitted by TiM on

I'm brewing beer again! Yesterday I cleaned all my beer making equipment and pitched a brew. I'm attempting to make something like this macs beer, so I threw in some corriander and orange rind as part of the brew. It's bubbling away behind me quite happily at the moment, because the shed stays so warm all the time it's a perfect environment for brewing. It's almost too hot actually, I've got the fan running on the brewing machine to keep the temperature below 30c.

Today I went back out to the SPCA, a good thing I did too because there was only one other person out there in my section to help. We had a pretty busy day, pretty tiring in the hot sun too.

Not much else to report! Back to work tomorrow!

The Oscar Emergency

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday when we got home from a the beach I noticed that Oscar had what seemed to be a bit of blood on each wing. We didn't think too much of it, it's really hot at the moment and he's moulting so we just assumed he was probably pulling feathers out and they were bleeding a little bit. We went out for a bit of attempted shopping which failed miserably, we got to R&R sports just as it closed and payless plastics had closed down (with a trespass noticed on the door) for good.
When we got back from that trip, I noticed that Oscar had a lot more blood on his beak and on closer examination, all around his bum hole!
Quite worried now we rung up the after hours vet and organised a 9pm exam for him. He seemed fine, he was bouncing around and chirping as usual...

The Wrong Movie

Submitted by TiM on

We rushed and rushed to get to the movies tonight, to realise that I'd told Sarah that the movie she wanted to see was on at 5:50pm when in fact it was some other stupid movie that she hadn't wanted to see that was on. Bugger. We decided to go anyway and it wasn't THAT terrible, though it certainly was corny right at the end. I can't find the name of the movie we were going to see (obviously not on anymore) but we ended up seeing Just Like Heaven.
Last night I went and bought some ginger, yeast and sugar! I'm making Ginger Beer again. The last batch I thought turned out pretty good, hopefully though this batch will be much better. Certainly there's nice warm conditions at the moment for the yeasties to go nuts in. I also got myself some homebrew stuff, I'll fire that up over...

Oh No! The Dentist!

Submitted by TiM on

I went to the dentist today for the first time in about 8, probably 9 years. It wasn't so bad, I was quite amazed by how much dentistry has advanced since I last went (That's how you know it's a been a while.) Now they have amazing machines and gizmos that scan your teeth, zoom around your head and get a full picture of your whole mouth. It was pretty high tech. Thankfully the results were good, I have no major teeth problems at all. They need a major cut 'n' polish, a filling and I also will need at some stage to get my wisdom teeth removed.
Getting my wisdom teeth done he said was something that really should be done sooner rather than later, so I'll be getting that done in the next couple of weeks, everything else is getting done next Tuesday. I've already sussed out with...

Anniversary Day

Submitted by TiM on

It's anniversary day here in Auckland today which means no work! It does mean that I have to go out to the SPCA again though (not that that's a bad a thing.) Last weekend when I went we had some new process and it ment one of the SPCA workers (not volunteers) got to act as our "boss" which I don't have a problem with, it's actually nice to have someone to quicker refer to when you don't know the answer. Our boss took it on herself to be a real cow and even to yell at one of the other volunteers in my group. A number of us when and complained though, so hopefully she's had it explained to her that the volunteers aren't going to stick around long when you're abusing them!--!break-->
Weekend was OK, Friday night we went and bought a present for some friends engagement...

Happy Australia Day!

Submitted by TiM on

Woo it's Australia Day! Australia day is the day that TripleJ broadcast the hottest 100, I haven't ever really listened in via their streaming system before because I've been at work and they only used to offer very poor quality streaming. This year however, they're offering 128kbps streaming mp3! For the rest of you, that means very good quality audio. So I'm sitting here at home after a hard day's work, having a VB (Because it's Australian) and listening to TripleJ in excellent quality on the stereo. It's such good quality I can almost imagine I'm at home sitting in the sun over at Chris' place (which was what I used to do almost every Hottest 100 Day!)

The landlords showed up today, just for a quick visit to say hello really. They were running really late for appointments so they just ducked in, said a quick hello and had...

No Show

Submitted by TiM on

The landlord never showed up yesterday, though I can't say I really blame her. Who'd want to drive 3 hours to do gardening when all it's doing is pissing with rain?
We actually got up really early yesterday go to and meet Sarah's dad for breakfast out at the airport after his jetsetting around the world the last couple of weeks. Breakfast was fairly dodgy (what do you expect at an airport?) but it nice, Peter was way too animated and happy for someone that's just come from an umpteen hour flight from the states!

I cooked (under Sarah's careful instructions) dinner again last night, corn beef with some veggies. Nothing too flash there except for the mustard sauce I made, NOT from a packet and the world's best mustard sauce. At least I thought so, it being the first time I've managed to make it where it doesn't either...
