Still No Oscar!

Submitted by TiM on

Poor Ol' Chirpus is still at the vets. It sounds like he's getting better though, the vet nurse told me on the phone today he's defending his little house and his food bowl. Sounds like he's getting his energy back!

Our little gathering last night was really good, Sarah's roast skills sadly put mine to shame. Dinner was lovely and the fire was roaring!

The reason the fire was roaring is because on Saturday I went and bought a cubic metre of wood. I was pretty lucky to actually FIND some wood left in Auckland, I few different places I tried all laughed at me, eventually I found a place who said he had one bit left. He told me how great and dry it was but sadly I have to disagree. Still, it's not as bad as it could be.

Now I'm off to eat the Tuscany Beef Stir...

Oscar Update

Submitted by Sarah on

Last update is that he's doing much better, and I will go and get him tomorrow hopefully.

We went and got him some new toys, just in case the bacteria was in his old ones. We do clean his toys and cage of course, but I guess we're just a bit paranoid that he's going to get this bug thing again, whatever it is. Anyway we got him some all new toys with giant bells which he can't get enough of - he was even (slowly) ringing the bell on his favourite toy when he was sick, he loves it so much.

We're having Darius (friend I used to work with) and Bonita (old flatmate) over for dinner tonight as we've got a huge lamb roast. Hmmmm, they're both single...Hope it turns out ok! (The roast, not the love match).

Poor Oscar

Sad news, Oscar is really sick at the vets, we're not sure what's wrong with him but he's got some bacteria and some fungus stuff in him, he's fluffed up and sleeping all the time. Hopefully he'll be ok overnight and we can go and collect him in the morning, but the vet didn't seem to hopeful which sucks.

Anyway, it's pretty sad, even though he's just a bird it's definately not the same around here without him.

Hope everyone's ok!

Wood!

Submitted by TiM on

Getting wood at this time of the year is a lot harder than it should be! We drove around yesterday and had no luck, we also rang a few places tonight and no joy either.
At the moment we're keep the fire going on the bags of wood from the supermarket and a bag of coal from the local dodgy dairy.

Hmm. Apart from it being freezing cold and I'm dead tired, I have nothing else to tell you! Work is going really well, Sarah's back is much better and generally life is good.

The end!

Saturday Morning Pancakes

Submitted by TiM on

Good morning! It's a lovely sunny Saturday morning here and the pancacke mixture is in the fridge just waiting for a couple more minutes before it's ready to cook. We often have pancackes on Saturday morning, I get up, let Oscar out and put him on my shoulder. I make the pancake mixture and Oscar tries to fly in it and eat it.

[Make sure you read these that Sarah sent me yesterday. My favourite is the bowling ball.]

Someone else just stays in bed and awaits the arrival of the pancakes! Can't say I blame her really, pancakes in bed are pretty good!

It's a lovely sunny day here today, not sure what we're going to do but I've just been up to get the newspaper, hopefully there's something interesting on somewhere. The rug sale is probably still on but I don't think we need a third rug. We're...

Rug Update

Submitted by TiM on

We're taking the big rug we bought yesterday back tomorrow, hoping we can exchange it for a different one. The one we got is fine apart from the fact that no matter what you do, all these tiny fine fibers. It's quite annoying and no amount of vacuuming will stop it. I've done a bit of looking online and I don't think it's meant to do it. We'll take it back tomorrow and quote the consumers guarantee act, wish us luck!

PS: Happy Birthday Rob Fleming!

Rug Shopping

Submitted by TiM on

Hello!

It's been a busy little weekend! Saturday morning we got up bright and early to go and buy some more pellets for Oscar. He's munched his way through his first bag, though at least half of them were wasted on trying to convert him to eat them.
Once Oscar was taken care of it was time to head out to the Rug Sale at Greenlane Showgrounds.

We purchased for ourselves a lovely little rug to go in the bedroom, it's nice and fluffy and gives you something warm to stand on in the morning.

Then it was back home to fire up the pizza oven in preparation for our pizza party! It was a bit of a pain to start but once it was going it warmed up nicely. We had a really nice bunch of pizzas and a nice night was had by all.

This morning we decided...

Hello everyone!
I'm currently cooking apple crumble. Usually Sarah isn't, well, so keen on my cooking. She doesn't like to leave me alone in the kitchen unaided. A few weeks back though I told her "I'll cook this apple thing I know how to make" and while she agreed I'm sure she was thinking "Oh no! What have I done?"
What I managed to cook though turned out pretty good, so we had it again last week and I'm cooking it again now.

Work is going really really well! My new contract is really cool, it's a very interesting challenge and it means I am thinking about network stuff all the time, learning (and struggling) with new things and interacting with other people on a daily basis! And there's a coffee machine but I'm sure I've already mentioned that.
I'm really having a good time though, the work is quite...
