Fun Run

Submitted by TiM on

There's a fun run on this Sunday and Sarah and I are signed up. It's only 8.something KM's but that's going to be plenty to bugger me out! I'm looking forward to it though, 6 months ago I would have thought the idea of me running all the way through a race without stopping would be impossible. Now I know that it'll probably be very hard but at least there's a chance I can do it. If I can run for 30 minutes (which I can) I'm sure I can go for another 20 minutes past that. I'm looking forward to it.

Work's going OK, I didn't work yesterday because I was feeling mighty crook. I slept all day though and actually got asked to come in at night to help with some debugging. A few hours turned into getting home at 2:30 in the morning. I slept in this...

Invasion of Privacy

Near where I work in Wellington is a travel agency. It's nothing special, but it's interesting to me as one of the people who works there has his desk against the window, facing inwards. It means each time I walk past I checkout what he's doing on his computer. You know what? He's the most dilligent worker ever. Never once have I seen him web browsing. He's always in his little booking program or writing emails. I wish I had his work ethic. Maybe I need the world watching me!

I'm in the cab on the way out to Wellington Airport to fly home for the weekend. I'm getting really good at "zoning out" on the plane now. I don't even hear the emergency exit "illusion of safety" announcement anymore, I have a good book and my playstation and I'm set from boarding to depature. All good practise for the...

Plane Fights

Submitted by TiM on

Made it to Wellington this morning, finally. I arrived at the check-in counter only to be told by a overly cheery person that my flight had been cancelled and I was now booked to fly on Air New Zealand. I don't like flying AirNZ, firstly they're a Kiwi company and I'd much rather support an Australian company. Secondly they had a little period of time there where bits kept falling off their planes. I kept an eye out today but both engines seemed to be attached as we landed. I was only an hour and a half late to work.

We went surfing again yesterday, we're turning into real pros. I got up a few times as did Sarah. If the surf had been better we'd probably have done better too. The only downside was Sarah fell off and bashed her back quite badly, it was bruising up nicely last...

Efficient

Submitted by TiM on

What an efficient Saturday morning we've had. Up nice and early on a beautiful sunny day. I walked up to the dairy to get some milk for my morning coffee only to realise when I went to pay that I'd forgotten my eftpos card. At least it was a good bit of exercise.

We went into Ponsonby to post off more stuff we've sold on TradeMe, then got some breakfast. I got another headshave then went and got my eyes examined. Every time I go for an eye check-up the procedure is more and more advanced. This time around the fun centered around a machine that puffed air into my eye to measure eyeball pressure. Apparently it's an important thing to know.

Last night we helped Kelly move house. Yet again she's been stuffed over, this time her landlord called in the "family moving in clause" which means they only...

It's Getting Exciting!

Submitted by TiM on

Yes it's action a plenty here in Wellington. It's been quite a busy and stressful week and I'm only halfway through it. But it can only get better as Friday rapidly approaches.

Work is going quite well here, there's heaps going on we're almost rushed off our feet with everything that's happening. I'm actually really enjoying some of it though, it's good to be busy all the time and feel like you're actually needed, plus people are asking my opinion of various things. It feels a lot better to have some actual value/input instead of just writing test results onto bits of paper.

I'm meeting up with my old boss Peter A for a beer and a meal tonight. It's been ages since I've seen him and it'll be good to catchup.

Looking forward to the weekend already...

Descent Into Terror

Good morning this entry is being typed up from the 7am super fun Qantas airplane. I was talking to Sarah about the Hindenburg disaster over the weekend and I was saying to her how stupid I thought they were for putting up an air balloon full of very flammable gases. She then mentioned to me about fuel in your average airplane. I'd never quite thought of it like that, I AM sitting on a flying bomb when you think about, just as the people on the Hindenburg were. Bugger.

We had a good weekend, we got up nice and early on Saturday morning and went into town to have a look around, do a bit of shopping etc. Get stabbed.

We went surfing again at Piha yesterday, I had a go first of all but I sucked totally, Sarah went in a couple of times and did quite well given...

EARTHQUAKE!

Submitted by TiM on

Major excitement just now, there was an Earthquake and I actually felt it. Therefore I have finally, after 30 years, been in a real Earthquake. The biggest disappointment is that I thought maybe it was an earthquake but no one said anything so I thought I was just being silly. Then Dean messaged me on Skype and told me.

So Cool! I've been in an earthquake!

Update: Just to steal my thunder, there was an Earthquake in Auckland last night that Sarah felt. It was such a big deal it even made the paper, Earthquakes in Auckland are...

Stupid Cricket

Submitted by TiM on

Stupid cricket. I should expect the amount of ribbing I gave to people when I first got to SSC would come back and bite me on the arse, and of course it has.
It's not like NZ didn't deserve to win both times, because they did. Full credit to them. It's the fact they played so well and fully deserved to win that makes things like this piss me off even more. What a load of whiny crap baby crap.

It's not a good day to be an Australian in New Zealand!

New Apartment

Submitted by TiM on

It's an exciting week! Yes I have a new apartment to stay in. It's still the same apartment complex as before, but this time I have a room on the opposite site of the building. I have a window in my bathroom which I can open up nice and wide. The sun shines into the room in the morning instead of the afternoon (I'd get home and it'd be a boiler room)
Because I'm on the opposite side of the building I'm not longer next to the noisy pub that would have lots of people screaming and yelling until 2 in the morning. Best of all the Internet connection actually works so I no longer have to rely on a dodgy wireless connection like I used to. This means I can stream TripleJ properly!

Sometimes you don't realise how much something sucks until afterwards!

Silver Class Citizen

Hello! I need to write something here to move that stupid Karate story from the top page. Having talking to a few people at Karate I realise that I didn't do as badly as I thought, it's just that everyone else gets graded in a big group so it's a lot easier to hide your mistakes (and copy others if you don't know the commands). So I'm over it. I've sown my new stripy thing onto my belt and I'm all ready to go. Or something.

Oh yea, check out myself and Peter in the sprint to get a good seat at the Eric Clapton concert. We ordered this photo from the paper that printed it, we're a bit pissed off with the quality of it, but I've scanned it in so you can have a look.

In other big, exciting news I am now a SILVER Qantas Frequent...
