It's Odd

Submitted by TiM on

It's weird to not have a job. Sarah keeps hassling me about it... "I don't see YOU doing anything to earn money for this house!" and she's right! It does mean I get to spend more quality time with the coffee machine before I have to leave it behind, poor coffee machine. The last of our stuff's on TradeMe (and not doing so well at the moment, only the Scooter's had a bid)

Sarah's home sick today, she's slept for most of it. I've been packing boxes, now that we've sold most of our stuff we actually have surprisingly little. At least that's how it seems at the moment, when it comes time to fit it all onto a trailer my opinion might be a little different.

Oh well. Back to being jobless.

Hit Me Up With H2O

As I posted in the last story, we went to the Dr's on Saturday. As well as having blood tests to check our Rabies shots worked, we also decided to get meningitis shots as well. You never know when you're on a truck trip with lots of other people. My shot was pretty pain free (a bit of a sting at first) and my blood test wasn't too bad, though I noticed later it got really red and unhappy. Sarah however wasn't so lucky, her Meningitis shot really hurt, she was in lots of pain the poor girl. It left the nurse in quite a flap too, she couldn't understand why it would be hurting so much.

After about 30 minutes though the pain stopped and she was all better, we went home (with our new Pharmacy as well, more on this in a minute) and did the few last...

Here I Sit On The Wooden Floor Of The Shed

I'm currently sitting out in the shed, because it's the only place where I have a computer! I had to give my nice laptop back, as well as my phone SIM Card yesterday. I do have a temporary new mobile number, I texted most people but if you want it click on "Trip Information" in the left hand menu.

It was a bit sad yesterday to have to pack up, hand in all my stuff and say goodbye to the people at SSC. While the project has been a really "interesting" time, the people I've been working with were great.
Prophecy also had a BBQ Leaving party for me on Thursday night which was really cool, Jonny has just recently bought a new place so we all trooped around there for some tasty BBQ food. Mark cooked it all too, which is slightly strange as he's vegetarian!

The Days Count Down

Submitted by TiM on

It's the final week! It's packed with excitement and it's very busy. We've got a new guy that's started at SSC to take over my role so I've been teaching him what I know/have learnt in the time I've been there.

Our landlords have already stitched up some new people to move into The Nest, or at least they've very close to it. She came and took photos on it on Monday, people got shown through it today and they've put an application on it. I'm glad it's gone so early because it means our landlords will be in a good mood about it, plus it also means we don't have to worry about more people coming through the house while we're trying to pack it up.

Quite a few people have asked for our travel plans, where the hell are we going and what are we doing. So I...

Altered Words

Shamelessly stolen from an email sent to me at SSC -Tim
Here is the Washington Post's Mensa Invitational which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter and supply a new definition. The winners are:

1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

2. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole.

Hold Me, I Need To Cry

I sold my MR2 today. The guy who bought it came around at 11:30, he gave me a large bank cheque and I gave him two sets of keys to the MR2. I also was polite and did not attempt to rugby tackle/Karate him when he got into the drivers seat.
I couldn't stand around to see it drive off though, I was inside before he'd started the engine.

He's a really nice guy though, he's got 4 other MR2's so I know it's gone to a good home, he's going to get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. Plus we're now a lot more cashed up for our travel and that's the important thing.

We've had a feckin' busy day. I handed notice in to the landlords during the week and last night a real estate person rang me up asking if she could come over...

Back Home!

Submitted by TiM on

It's always nice to get back home. Even when home is currently being moved into a large number of boxes! I caught the shuttle home as usual then went into Ponsonby to pickup my new glasses. More information about how sexy I look with them on can be located here.

They'd want to be dead sexy for the amount of money they cost, but insurance will cover half of it. I guess it's a small price to pay for looking so damn good.

The landlord's real estate agent rang tonight and asked if she could come tomorrow and take photos. Initally we said no but then we thought about it and changed our minds. After a lot of running around and picking up/throwing out various things I think the house is ready to have random person come in and take photos. We're packing up to leave, how tidy can...

Excitement Mounts!

The MR2 is sold! I got the full price I wanted for it too, $8000. I have to thank Sarah for pushing me to list it at a higher price. She's being picked up tomorrow afternoon, it's going to be a sad afternoon after I watch it drive off.

It all adds to the mounting excitment at leaving though, last week is my last week of full time employment! My job at SSC finishes, next Friday's flight home is going to be the best because I won't have to do it ever again! At least I hope not.

Sarah and I will be setting up a seperate travel website soon, one that has maps and routes etc. I'm still going to update this site of course, but as we're travelling that'll be the main source of what's happening.

Time to get on my flight home...

We Did It!

Submitted by TiM on

Woohoo! We both ran 8.4km's without stopping (ignoring the quick 10 second stop for a cup of water) and did the Round The Bays in just over an hour. That's pretty good going, we're both very pleased that we did it without needing to stop. We're also both pretty buggered now.
Vodafone had put on a nice BBQ with cold drinks and music after the event, it was SO nice to sit down and have a feed and some cold, cold drinks. Then we pretty much walked all the way back from the finish into town, though we cheated a little bit and got a cab for the last couple of KM's. We only had $10 though which wasn't enough to get us all the way to where our car was parked so we had to get out again and walk!

We both had a really great time though, it...

Highest Bidder Please!

I didn't get much interest at all from having the MR2 for sale on the Trade and Exchange. However TradeMe is a different story. Here she is, up for sale. I've already had one guy make me an offer for it, but we'll hold out for a while until I get a good price. Poor old girl, I'll be so sad to see her go. She's in perfect condition though so we should get a good price.
