London = Rain

Submitted by TiM on

Try as people might to convince us this isn't how the weather usually is in London, I don't believe anyone. Sarah's just left to go and get a haircut, so of course it's just started to totally bucket down. The BBC this morning said there's a really good chance of thunderstorms later today, looking at the sky I'd say they've suggested too late. It's supposed to be summer, but all yesterday it rained and even last week there was a lot of thunder and lightning.

Things are really good though, Sarah's off getting a haircut because she has an interview with an agency this afternoon at 2, I have a phone interview with a potential employeer at 3 this arvo so wish us both luck! Sarah submitted her resume to various websites on Thursday night and Friday morning the phone wouldn't stop ringing for her.

I'm still waiting to get...

How London's Treating Us... Job Hunting Day 4!

Submitted by TiM on

Day 4 of job hunting and still no job! Not that really I expected to be sitting in front of any routers just yet, but I still hoped maybe I'd have had a little more interest than what there's been. I've had a few recruiting agencies ring me up after I've submitted my CV to them, they seem fairly confident that it won't be too hard to fit me into a position, it's the fact that I'm only on a working holiday visa (which limits me to working for one year) that's the big show stopper. I've also applied for a few contract roles of course, but there's less of them than I hoped there would be.

I've ordered a SIM Card so my darling P910i mobile phone should be back in action tomorrow, the battery is all charged ready to go. I've actually gotten really used to carrying around...

Applying For Jobs

Submitted by TiM on

I've been sitting here at the computer for a good portion of the day, working on my CV and then signing up to the various different UK job websites. I was quite happy to recieve a phone call this morning from a recruiting company, based on some limited information Sarah entered into one site yesterday, but since then the phone hasn't been ringing off the hook bugger it.

I have found a few good jobs which I've applied for, but I'll keep at it for the next few days, also I've heard if you hassle the recruiting firms you're much...

Well Yes Old Chap, We've Made It To England

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from England! Yes, we finally made it all the way through Asia and the Middle East to arrive here in the home of The Queen's English and of course, warm beer. I'm currently sitting in "EasyInternetCafe" which is the same company that runs EasyJet. It's so stupid, it's all Windows98 PCs and I'm not allowed to use my little USB Stick. Therefore, I can't actually work on my CV/Resume which is the main reason we came here in the first place. Stupid Internet cafe. I tried to log onto there support site to complain about this, but their support site gives error messages. I will ring them later and abuse them.

We're staying with Sarah's Auntie and Uncle, Andy and Maggie. They're lovely people and have kindly given us a room to stay for as long as we need, which hopefully won't be too long. We're based out in...

About To Leave Turkey For The Big UK!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Istanbul! It actually rained today which was such a nice thing to have happen, it made a real change from walking around wet because of your own sweat.

The last few days have been a total blast, we're all really sad now that the tour is over, it was our last day yesterday. All our stuff's off the truck, we had to say goodbye to people today and we'll wave goodbye to the remaining people tomorrow when we hope on our EasyJet flight to England.

I don't have the time to write a proper entry, I know I've been really slack and I really am looking forward to being able to have a good couple of hours to try and remember everything and write it all up. I still have a couple of draft stories that I have yet to post properly. Please visit Sarah's blog for where...

Hello From Selcuk!

Submitted by TiM on

Phew! We just got off the truck where it's been nice and hot, that's the only weather we seem to be getting at the moment. At least this internet cafe has nice airconditioning, that makes being here and trying to remember what to type a lot easier.

Yesterday in Ölüdeniz we took a boat ride. We all piled on this big two level boat with about one hundred other tourists, mostly British, for a day long swimming and lazing in the sun extravaganza. The boat was really cool too, it had a waterslide that you get in on the top deck and it shots you out down about 4 seconds later into the Ocean.

We spent the whole day on the boat, it drove around 4 different locations and served us all up a lovely lunch. Serving that many people in such an efficent manner I thought was quite a...

Ölüdeniz

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Ölüdeniz, a crappy beach resort in Turkey. Obviously we're at a different beach than the one mentioned in Wikipedia, because the place we're staying at is basically a swamp! I feel very sorry for all the people who come here and think they're seeing a real beach, Sisters Beach back home in Tasmania is about 20 times nicer, St Helens is about 500 times nicer! This place is just package tourist hell, all the british tourists walking around looking like burnt lobsters.

Ok so maybe it's not that bad, but compared to some of the amazing places we've seen so far it's really nothing special, it's also quite expensive which doesn't really add to the enjoyment value. It is a nice break for a few days though, the sun is shining and we don't really need to spend any money except on lunch, dinner is cooked by...

In Olympus

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Olympus.
We're having a great time still, staying in Tree Houses at the moment, even though actually they're not Tree Houses because they all burnt down in February.

My hand is really good, healing up nicely!

It's super hot here, it got up to about 45 degrees today they think, though it was predicted to get up to 55 degrees! Amazing, glad it didn't make it. We went Canyoning, which wasn't as good as I'd hoped but still a lot of fun. I had to wear a big red rubber glove on my hand to keep it dry, lots of amusement as I'd be walking waist high in water with my red right hand held over my head.

There's a foam party tonight, should be lots of fun!

Sarah's good, I'm good and we're still having a great time.

Turkey

Hello from Turkey. It's fantastic, easily the best country we've visited so far. It's a lot more advanced than the other places, so it's a lot easier to find things.

Like a doctor for example, if you slipped over in the toilet of a nightclub the night before and put your hand through a glass window. Like I did.
I now have a large bandage on my right hand and 3 stitches in it. It hurts, but apart from that I'm fine! I'm "glad" it happened in Turkey though, the Dr was really good and did a great job, I don't want to know what it would have been like in Syria!

Yesterday we did hot air ballooning, we're in Cappodocia at the moment and the view from the balloon was stunning. We had a perfect morning according to our pilot and we sailed around the sky, rising up high...
