Catching Up

Submitted by TiM on

Well it's been ages since I've written a proper story, it just seems so hard to find the time to do it, but I suspect really it's just that I'm lazy. When I bought my new laptop I sort of promised myself I'd try and keep my diary up to date, but it hasn't really worked out that well! I will try harder!

The only reason for this is because I hate it when I got back to look at what I was doing for a period of time, only to realise there's 2 weeks gap between my last few entries. The best part of keeping a diary like this is to go back and rememeber stuff, it doesn't work if I don't! Anyway.

Last Thursday (i.e. one week ago, that's how long it's been) Peter drove down in his hire car with it packed to the brim. He had...

Lookin' Good

Hello from the Train back from Reading. My monthly customer meeting today, nothing exciting. I have a bit of down time while I'm on the train, so I thought I would write a story really only to show off my brand new header image. It's Awesome. Sarah made it. If all you can still is the image of the "truck at night" then you need to force the page to refresh. You can do this by holding down the CTRL key, and while holding it press the R key. You might have to do it a couple of times. Yea! How awesome is that? Sarah made that in about 15 minutes last night in Photoshop. She's a bit of a wizard.
She also made this one first, but we decided the 2nd one was a bit cooler. Once I figure out how to do it, I'm going to have rotating...

Rinse and Repeat

Hello! For what's been happening this weekend, see the last two entries! Sarah and I went up to Halifax on Friday night and came back yesterday night. We helped Peter with a bit more packing of John's house, which is now much tidied up and ready for some work on it. Now I'm back at work, overlooking the bleak grey skies I've become so accustomed to. Ahh London. It's grey.

Back From Halifax

Hello from the freezing cold Boston Manner tube station, I'm waiting for the tube to arrive to take me home.
Ahh that's better, now I'm in the tube and it's much warmer. Back to work today, after a fun weekend in Halifax.

Crikey someone's let one go in here - Not cool! Anyway, I arrived at the Halifax train station with perfect timing, Sarah and Peter were there waiting for me. We jumped in the car and headed over to John's place to keep cleaning it out. I was given a large box of cables and gadgets to sort out. Trying to find the right power adapter for the right electronic gizmo is hard! After an hour of that we broke for lunch at a lovely local cafe.

I really love the small town atmosphere of Halifax. People are friendly, everyone knows everyone else. There's 3 people on the bus...

On The Train To Leeds (Again)

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from the comfy Train to Leeds. There's not much exciting to do in London by myself so I'm heading back up to Leeds to join Sarah for a couple of days, before we head back on Sunday night. It's amazing how good public transport is in Europe, compared to NZ or Tassie. I guess population size is everything!

We headed up to Halifax on Tuesday, catching the train from Kings Cross station up to Halifax. We got delayed by about 30 minutes because a train coming the opposite way hit something on the track, so we had to go really slowly for 20 minutes while our train driver looked for whatever it was. I was too busy snapping out at the fact the train has a free wireless Internet connection on it. It's very slow, but it works enough so that you can check your emails and browse the...

2008 Posting Schedule

Submitted by TiM on

Well here we are in 2008! I got so lazy there that I haven't updated in a few days, but there's been lots going on and we've been fairly busy. I'm back at work on my first day after holidays, it's lunchtime so I thought I should bash out a quick, full-of-typos entry before I forget everything.

Sarah's Dad arrived at Heathrow yesterday so we caught the tube out to pick him up. He's here for his brother's funeral which is going to be held on Wednesday up in Yorkshire. Sarah and I are going to catch a train up tomorrow afternoon for the service, Sarah's then going to stay up there until Sunday, but I will be coming back because of work. I love my job but they're a lot more strict about leave and keeping hours than any of my other employers have been before.
Once we'd picked...

Exploring Paris - Happy New Year!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Paris! We made it in yesterday on the TGV with no problems. I was stressed that we'd miss our train from Montreux, or our connection at Lausanne but we didn't. Once we got to Paris, Sarah showed off her impressive French skills by ordering tickets for the Metro (the local subway), in French. Very impressive, asking for 2 books of tickets in good French.
I'd read that the Metro system could be hard to understand, but it made perfect sense to both of us, we found the way to our hotel's stop easily. Probably because it's exactly like travelling on the London Underground.

Once we got off the Metro at our stop, we headed above ground and quickly got confused by where we'd ended up. Right near a massive roundabout and a bunch of roads that all criss-crossed over each other, making it hard to get anywhere especially...

Bonjour From Montreux

Submitted by TiM on

Bonjour from Montreux! We're now in French speaking country and my French is terrible. Everyone speaks English though, so it's not a problem.
We made it here with only a few small issues (see my last scatterbrained entry) late this afternoon. We went for a walk long the Lake Geneva and saw the Freddie Mercury statue. Though most of the amusement was watching this tool stand in various poses with it for a good 10 minutes, annoying all the other tourists who didn't want a photo of him, just of Freddie.

It's a nice city, though we won't get to have much of a look around as we have to be in Lausanne by 1pm tomorrow to catch our TGV to Paris. We did make the most of the daylight though, looking around at what we could. It would have been nice to stay another day to see the uber...
