The Downpour

Submitted by TiM on

Last full day on Koh Lanta today, we have to book our ferry back to Phuket today and head off tomorrow. We've had a really good time and it's going to be sad to leave, we can always return another day however!

Last night we went to dinner with Kelly and Kim to show them a restaurant that we'd been to the night before. It had really good food and that's been sometimes hard to find here, so we went back for dinner. Just after we'd ordered it started to rain a little bit, as it often does in the afternoon/evening here. We moved from our table on the beach to a table under a little hut, which was a good thing because the rain really came down. It just poured and poured, along with massive thunder and lightning. The staff at the restaurant were running around delivering food under...

What Day Is It Anyway?

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from day 4 (3? Or 5? I'm not even sure) on Koh Lanta. I know I've said this already, but it's really uber nice here. The food at the restaurant where we're staying is really good, it's run by an Indian man who takes pride in what he offers. It also takes a bloody long time for the food to arrive, but when it does it's always really tasty. The food almost everywhere we go is fantastic though. It's just so hard to find a nice coffee! So I've resorted to drinking cold "iced coffee" out of cans. It's got coffee, sugar and caffeine. Disco.

Today all 4 of us were going to go on a cooking course, but Sarah woke up in the middle of the night not feeling very well at all, so Sarah and I aren't attending the cooking, instead just taking it really easy. I...

Koh Lanta Yai and the sore leg

Hello from Koh Lanta, the best place that we've been to so far on this trip, at least in my opinion. We met up with Kelly and Kim yesterday while we were boarding the Ferry at Koh Phi Phi to head to Koh Lanta. Funny, we weren't expecting to see them until we got to the hotel, so it made the ferry ride over a lot shorter because we had people we knew to talk to!

We had a little man waiting for us when we got off the Ferry, which is always nice. You still have to walk through all the other touts trying to sell you their accommodation, taxi services and other stuff. We arrived at our hotel to find it's perfect, just what we were hoping for. Right by the beach, we have a nice little bungalow with good A/C. The only odd thing is the blanket...

Koh Phi Phi

Hello from Koh Phi Phi. We've having a great time! We arrived yesterday and found our hotel, which took forever to get our bungalow ready and when it finally was ready the A/C leaked like a fiend. We asked for them to fix it and they got really annoyed with us, like it was our problem! But they moved us to a different bungalow, which was even higher up (more stairs!) but with a better A/C and a better view. So all good in the end.

Koh Phi Phi is much nicer than Phuket. Phuket was OK, but really not that great compared to some of the places we've seen. We had a good look around though, Kata Beach was fantastic. We spent the day like true British Tourists and hired out our own beach recliner with umbrella, had lunch brought to us and then fell asleep in the the...

Back In Thailand

Submitted by TiM on

Hello!
We're back! It's like we never left, the stinking hot weather, the lovely food, the millions of people all trying to attract you into their store.
After too many hours of flying yesterday we made it in late last night, had something to eat and then crashed out. We haven't done too much today, just looked around our beach (Karon) and now we're up at Patong Beach.
Not much else to say yet, just that I'm really glad to be back! It's so nice here, though I don't think of much as Phuket as I did Koh Samui or Koh Tao. Still, we've yet to visit the islands of Koh Pi Pi, so things can only get better!

Bus of the Undead

How excited are we? Very, that's how excited we are! This time approx tomorrow night we'll be getting on the plane to Thailand! Weee! It was hard to pay attention at work today, that's how much I am looking forward to this.

So as you can tell from my last diary post, we went out on Saturday night. Overall, it was a strange night.
We left home about 7, after Cass had told us she was going to be wearing a wig and taking one for Ricki. We didn't have a wig so we didn't worry, but Sarah rememebered that on the way to the train station there was a wig shop. We didn't hold much hope for it being open, but amazingly enough as we walked past it was! We went in and dealt with the bitch shop assistant (After Sarah had tried on one wig and asked to...

Quick Entry

We're just on our way out, Ricki got into a really fantastic university somewhere (UCLA I think) so we're going out to celebrate that fact.
Went to Karate this morning, it was grading for some of the new whitebelts. I didn't grade up, I haven't been going enough to have earned it. It was intense as usual, well done to everyone who did grade.

We're all pretty much packed for Thailand, a bit more tomorrow and we'll be ready to go. Woo! Really looking forward to it now.

It's wet and miserable today, we're going to get wet walking up...

Losing It

Submitted by TiM on

I'm loosing it! It's been a stressing 24 hours. I upgraded the memory in Sarah's laptop last night. Took a few years off my life. This morning I helped a really old couple get their 5 (yes, 5) suitcases down the stairs at Acton Town while everyone else just ignored them struggling. Feeling proud of myself I hopped on the Tube as it pulled up. And ended up at Ealing Common, having gotten on the wrong train. Thankfully another train came quickly to take me back to Acton Town and I still made it to work on time.

There's a...
