Back To Halifax

Submitted by TiM on

Tonight, Ladies and Gentleman, we are First Class citizens! We're heading up to stay with Brendan and Lynn for the weekend to clear the garden at John's house. Sarah's organised a skip, we've got the gardening gloves and we're ready to go.
We're First Class because Lynn had some tickets for the train she wasn't using and sent them down to us. Can you tell I'm excited? I've never travelled first class before, at least that I can remember.

It's been a good week, I've been rushing around at work with various things. It's all fun and games at the moment, we've been purchased by a massive company called Reliance.

Nothing else of note, the Tube's almost Acton Town so time to post this. Have a good weekend everyone!

Did It!

Submitted by TiM on

Did it! In 1 hour 5 minutes. I'm awesome!

It was freezing cold to start with, pissing with rain and we were all standing around wondering if it was worth even starting. But once we got underway there were bands every few KM's and lots of people cheering us on. I think we ran past all the sights of London but I didn't really see them because my glasses were all fogged up.

All good!

Run!

Submitted by TiM on

I'm sitting on the Tube heading towrads Green Park Station, it's 8:15am Monday morning (It's a long weekend) and at 10:00am the 10k Bupa run starts. I keep calling it a Marathon but it's not. It'll feel like one though.

It's cold and it's raining heavily. Perfect conditions! Should be fun. Sarah's packed my kit bag full of warm things so I'll be fine.

[UPDATE] Very long version of the day's events for those logged in

We did it! It wasn't actually that bad either, just an hour and a half for them to process it and approve it, then we had to wait another hour for then to put the new bit in my passport.

I can now legally work for another two years!

It's SUCH a weight off my mind. We had way to many documents, but all good, better than having to few. I'm so relieved, I was so worried I'd have missed a comma and they'd reject it, but it was a smooth (and quite fast) process.

So woo! Will write a proper entry about the whole day later. But that's the major nugget of news.

I can't pick my favourite

Submitted by TiM on

It's really hard to pick what I love most about walking from home to the tube station every morning.

Is it the lovely sunny morning?
The happy, smiling people all doing the same thing as me?
The birds all chirping away, smug in the knowledge they don't have to work?
Or is it the fresh puddles of vomit that you have to walk around, lovingly laid down each night in about 5 different places by some person/people.

I can't decide.

Join The Band!

We bought Guitar Hero and SingStar yesterday for our little PS2. Even though we only played Guitar Hero for about 40 minutes before we headed over to Maggie and Andy's for dinner, we both loved it! It's really fun, I can see why it's the huge hit that it is. SingStar is OK, I don't love it as much as Sarah does.

We both love Guitar Hero though, we're playing it again now actually. Though I am taking a break to get over my wrist cramping and to type up a long overdue diary entry.

It's going to be a big week this week! Friday we have an appointment at the Home Office, to get my visa extended. We've got all our documents together in a lovely binder ready for the Home Office to sniff through and confirm that yes, we've lived together for two years+
The amount of documents...

Amsterdam: Sunday and Monday

Sunday!

Sunday we tried to get up nice and early, but didn’t quite manage it. We did a pretty good job though, leaving the hotel about 10am.
We walked up towards the Van Gogh museum, stopping before we got there to get some breakfast at a little café. Sarah ordered a Dutch Pancacke, which was a pancake with bacon in it. Rather interesting combination she though. Oh look, I’m doing what I used to do in my little diary when I was 12, write about food! Well, it’s part of the fun.

So anyway, all fooded up we walked up to the Van Gogh museum and walked path the seething mass of bodies all lined up to get tickets, because I was super smart and had booked ours online and printed them out. It meant that we skipped 30 minutes waiting in a queue outside, but inside it was already...

Amsterdam: Saturday

Submitted by TiM on

Diary of our Amsterdam Adventures, Saturday 11th May. It's a bit rough, but it'll do!

We got up nice and early, too early in fact, and went out to Heathrow on the Tube. We decided not to bother with checking our bags in, opting instead to carry them into the plane. Halfway through the queue to security, Sarah remembered that she had a bunch of liquids in her bag. Then I remembered too! Even though we’d both managed to walk past the guy going “Liquids? Pastes?” and thinking “Duh – No!”
So we had to walk out of the security line then go and check our bags in, and rejoin the line. I’m such a ninny.

The flight to Amsterdam was short and sweet, I slept for the whole thing. Once we’d arrived in the airport I was sure I’d read that the Hilton had a free shuttle bus to...

We're heading to Amsterdam on Saturday. We've both taken Monday off, which means we get 3 days there to have a good look around. Should be lots of fun! In other news, there's not much news on the work front. We are trying to pull ourselves out of the rather large hole we're in.
