Once, Twice, Three Times A Telstraaaaaaa

Submitted by TiM on

Hello! Back from my second day at Telstra and I must say, I'm really happy to be back working there.
I'm working with a really small team, doing the sort of stuff I used to do back at TelstraClear in New Zealand. It's a little more specific than TelstraClear was (I was jack-of-all-trades there), I work in the Operations Group which is focused mostly on keeping the network up and running. Which is probably one of my best skills, if I do say so myself.

I started yesterday, got into work at 9:30am. It didn't start well, my boss wasn't there, neither of the other guys on my team were there and I had no laptop or phone. But I was on the "staff list" we have to sign in and out of, so I knew that at least someone was expecting me!

It only took a few hours though...

Munich - The Land of Über Awesome

Submitted by TiM on

I'm back in the UK again and very depressed. I was supposed to be German, I'm sure. I'm a Harman, I love beer and I have very recently discovered that the German Beer Garden is the best thing invented ever.
Maybe not quite ever, but it's up there in the top 5!

I loved Munich, this entry covers the four days (way to short!) we were there.

We got up to damn early on Thursday morning and caught a Taxi out to the airport. We were originally going to get the tube, but then earlier in the week they'd called a strike. The strike was eventually called off but the taxi wasn't that expensive and it's so much less hassle to just get in a car and be taken straight to the airport door, rather than having to lug our bags down to the tube station, then stand there on...

Hello From Munich

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Munich, land of awesome beer. I'm sitting downstairs in the foyer of our hostel, with all the other nerds in the "free wifi" area.

Sarah and Kelly flew in from France yesterday, I had a mini heart attack when I heard about the plane crash in Madrid, until I remembered they weren't there anymore.
Yesterday was also my last day at Vanco, which was good. We had a nice lunch at the pub then did the usual "Stand around the desk and make awkward speeches" bit. Fun, fun.

Munich is cool so far, we arrived with no problems and caught the train into the centre of town. We were too early to check into our room, so Sarah took me to the houfbrau house. I probably spelt that wrong. We spent the afternoon being lazy and sleeping, Sarah didn't sleep last night so she was pretty zonked out...

Santa Mierda! Estoy treinta y dos!

Hello from San Sebastian again. It´s a really crappy day today for my 32nd Birthday, which is a bit of a bugger. We were looking forward to spending the day at the beach in the roasting sun, but luck is against us today. We didn´t even go to the fireworks last night, though we´d been looking forward to them all day, because of the torrential rain showers that came bucketing down. Luckily we´d just ducked into the local Chinese resturant before they started.

Our roommates are still as annoying as ever. They seem to be confused by the concept of...

San Sebastian

Hola! Here we are in San Sebastian and it´s pretty awesome. I came up on the train yesterday, first class! Though it wasn´t really that first class, the main thing was there was legroom and it was only a 2 second walk to the food carriage. There was also a couple of movies, but as I don´t speak Spanish they really weren´t that interesting!

The train ride was nice and relaxing though, I had a bit of a snooze, watched the countryside (it´s so brown and dry!) and had a lager while reading my books. Plenty to do really. Once it arrived in San Seb (only a 6 hour journey, not to bad) I walked down and found Sarah and Kelly.

We had a look around San Seb in the afternoon, walking along around the side of mountin/cliff area. There´s lot of side show places, Sarah said she wanted a...

Hello from the Madrid Laundrette

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Madrid on day 4 of looking around. We're having a break day today, just taking it easy, though to be fair that's pretty much what we've done the whole time we've been here.

I arrived late Friday night and caught the metro into the centre of town, called Sol. The metro wasn't hard to navigate at all, I guess once you've learnt how to navigate one metro system you've learnt them all.

I met up with Sarah and Kelly outside the horse statue in the centre of Sol, we went back to our hostel (which is really nice) and I dumped my bags. We then headed out to get something to eat and found a really nice tapas resturant slightly off the tourist trail.

We slept in the next day and I mean SLEPT in. We got up about 12:30pm. The fact the curtains in our room kept...

Off To Madrid

Submitted by TiM on

Hello! Just about to get on the plane to Madrid, where I'll be all week with Sarah. Well, not all week, on Wednesday I get on a train, Sarah gets on the bus and we met up again in San Sebastian.
Expect even less regular updates!

The Week That Was

Does anyone else think it's weird that the car that parks in the childcare centre at the end of our street has the numberplate KINKEE? I know I do.

Thank fek it's Friday. It's been another fun week consisting of joy and happiness all around.
It's perfect Blackberry season so now on the way to and from work I walk through Boston Manor Park and all the bushland surrounding it, picking off Blackberries and scoffing them down.

Last night was the leaving party for two other guys in my team who've decided to move on. There's still 3 more (myself included) that are working out their notice. The team's becoming smaller and smaller by the week it seems. That's one of the reasons I decided it was time to depart.

We had a great time last night, though it was annoying trying to get from work into town because the...

It's Been Hot!

Hello on a balmy Sunday night in Acton! It's been a good weekend, especially today when it's been lovely and sunny here in Britian. Or is it the UK? I'm always confused. Thankfully someone's come up with this Venn Diagram that makes it clear.

I should point out I originally got that image from this page.

Friday night I met up with Mark and Kat for what was going to be an evening relaxing in Gunnersbury Park, but that plan got all too difficult so we ended up instead at the local pub for a couple of hours. We had a good time, and I learned that I totally suck at Foosball after 4 pints of lager.

Saturday I didn't do to much, I just slept in an then pottered around the house for a while, hacking away on my laptop and fiddling with my Juniper Routers. I...
