Eddie Izzard Dances The Flamenco

Submitted by TiM on

The tube was packed this morning. I was reading "The God Delusion", I happened to look up as someone jammed in tight next to me. He was reading The Bible. There we stood, rammed against each other, reading our opposing books. I don't know if he noticed or not.

I went to book tickets to Eddie Izzard last night. Well, I did book tickets to Eddie Izzard. But when I got the confirmation email, the system had booked us to Flamenco Flamen'ka, which is apparently 'A Stampede of wildly passionate music and dance'.
I rang them this morning, they...

Things That Make Me Laugh

Submitted by TiM on

I love The Onion. Something as simple as this makes me howl with laughter. They have the sense of humour/writing skill I wish I had.

Monday morning I picked up a "Free Handsfree Kit!" on my way to work. They were handing them out, one per person at Liverpool Street Station. I grabbed one thinking it might be a small bluetooth headset or something similar. One lady, thinking she was onto a real winner, grabbed 3. Walking out of the station I opened it up... It was a large rubber band with instructions how to use it.
I must admit, they sucked me with it as well!

In other news, not much. We had a good weekend, Saturday I was feeling quite crappy though. We went to Toast festival and it was OK, not that great though. Once you got in, it was just heaps of stalls with expensive...

Cambridge, The E3, Sleeping on the Tube.

Submitted by TiM on

Friday was a little different for me, I went up to the Telstra office in Cambridge. Cambridge it turns out is a really lovely place, it's also very flat so riding your bike is quite common. Everywhere I looked someone was on a bike in the sun, there's open paths and gardens everywhere. It reminded me a lot of Napier, or even Amsterdam (because of the bikes). Everyone was friendly, people seemed happy and were smiling. Makes a change from Central London suitville! The frowns have been especially bad this past week what with thingo-whatsit going bust.

The Telstra office in Cambridge is also a lot nicer than our office in Tab Street. It's located in a big "Technology Park" and there's lots of open space around, plus the office is a lot more modern. It'd be nice to work there, but because of the work I do I'm really...

Dieting Again

Submitted by TiM on

We're doing the elimination diet again this week. We started on Monday. Yesterday was the worst, I had a screaming headache and could hardly hold my head up. I think it's just the caffeine dependency letting me know it's there.

Sunday we took advantage of it being the last day we could eat nasty stuff. Sarah and I walked down to Chiswick, stopping along the way at a pub for some lunch. It was the first day in a while there was sun, so we sat out in the beer garden, had a pint and ate lunch. The English weather turned on us a bit, becoming very windy and a bit chilly. We made the most of it though.

Once we'd done that we went and did our shopping in preparation for the diet. It's always a shock how much cheaper our groceries are when we're not buying a lot...

Stupid Rugby

Sarah, Kelly and I were all going to head up to the Redback this morning to watch the Aussie vs Kiwi Rugby match. Sarah wasn't feeling that great though, so only Kelly and I went. The place was packed out and the Australian contingent was low. I kept my hoodie on to cover up my Australian (cricket) shirt.

It was quite a close match but in what can only be described as a sad day for Australia, we lost to New Zealand. Bugger.

Dinner last night at Boys was really nice. I'm glad that I booked ahead because when we...

PaintBall Pain - Happy 30th Jeremy

Submitted by TiM on

I guess I've already told everyone how much more I'm enjoying my new job compared to my old one. Yesterday for example we spent the whole afternoon playing paintball against each other.

Paintball, it turns out, is quite a lot of fun. Not that I wasn't expecting it to be. We ran around like mad things for about 3 hours, shooting round after round of paintballs at each other. The little bastards hurt when they hit you, especially at close range. It's just like being flicked with a teatowel.
I have bruises on my arms, neck and arse. Though they're a lot less swollen and painful than they were last night.

After shooting each other for 3 hours, the company opened up a bar tab for us then ordered pizzas. It's almost like reliving the glory days of working for TelstraSaturn when it seemed like every other day we'd be...

I Was Doing So Well

Submitted by TiM on

I was doing such a good job of updating my diary too, but now I've broken the cycle again. It's hard to write a story when there's not a lot happening. Though I guess there is really and I'm just lazy.

Last week wasn't that exciting from a work point of view: Monday was a normal day, Tuesday-Thursday were 3 days of company induction. The induction wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be which was a nice shock. There was a bunch of quizzes on the second day and the overall winner got a prize. I was that winner, so I am the proud owner of a Telstra pen, T-shirt, USB Stick, Pad and USB Hub.

Exciting things that happened last week include us giving up on our current TV. It's been going funny for a while and we'd finally gotten to the point of watching...

The Redback Tavern

Hello! It's time for the weekend report.
Saturday I went to Karate for the first time in ages and ages, I guess it must have been about 2, maybe 3 months before I was last at Karate. Partly because I was lazy before my lung collapsed, then of course because my lung collapsed and I was told to take it really easy.

Once the Dr told me on Friday that I wasn't about to burst my lung again in a hurry, I knew it'd be OK to go to Karate. Though by the end of it I was regretting it! Saturday was a really nice sunny day, which is pretty amazing considering how bad the weather's been here the last few weeks. The Karate room was sweltering - really hot and humid, the sweat was dripping off me. The worst part was, all this was before we started our lesson...

Arguing With The Doctor (And Winning!)

Submitted by TiM on

It's the weekend, fantastic! I'm really happy with my new job, it's going very well and there's lots of interesting stuff to do. Already I am reading product manuals and figuring out firmware updates and things like that. All the sort of stuff I used to do and all the stuff I love.

I'm also coping quite well with the tube in the morning, there's about 6-7 different combinations of changes I can make to get to my final destination. I've taken a different once each morning this week, I'll have to settle on a regular one at some stage though. I am a bit of a creature of habit. I get a seat every morning, I was very happy about this until I realised that it's still summer holidays (ha! It's overcast and miserable all the time) at the moment. Therefore all the school kids are off and so...
