Halloween Night

Submitted by TiM on

I bought chocolates (wrapped, of course) last night to give out to kiddies that might knock on our door for Halloween. Seeing the amount of advertising and commercialism around Halloween here I thought there'd be heaps of knocks on the door.
We didn't get a single one however. Sarah even saw a group of children walking up the street, but they didn't stop at our house. Our house must have a "too scary" reputation. There is the crazy lady that lives around the back. A conversation with her is like a black hole, you're sucked in before you know it and you just can't escape. I've had to actually just walk away before and even then, she kept talking.

At least we have a box of chocolates to eat now.

For dinner, we ordered Clever Wally's Raw Pizza. Which is just as it sounds, you get uncooked pizzas delivered...

Things They Forget To Tell You About A Lung Operation

Submitted by TiM on

Mostly I can ignore them, but this afternoon I couldn't stop the sneeze. JC. I thought I was going to have to lie down for a bit. Thankfully I kept the moaning to a minimum and my workmates didn't inquire why I was clunging myself and muttering "Holy fuck Holy fuck Holy fuck". In short, sneezing is bad.

Apart from that, life is choice! As they say in New Zealand. I got my Business Bank Account sorted out today, pay day isn't far away now. And I get to pay myself, how funky is that? Sarah's my secretary, so I think I'll pay her a pound this week. I'm her secretary though, so I'm sure she'll return the favour!

It's So Cold

Submitted by TiM on

It's so cold here at the moment. I'm sure it's not supposed to be this cold at this time of year. My suit barely keeps me warm, thankfully I also have a nice fluffy scarf that Peter and Mary sent me that helps a lot. It's made of possum fluff.
That's right, I put my scarf on before I head out the door each day. I've turned British!

I finally have an appointment with HSBC to open a business account today. They don't make it easy. I rang up to book an appointment Thursday last week and was promised a...

As Sarah Pointed Out

Submitted by TiM on

There hasn't been an update in a while! That's because we're busy but doing good.
I'll quickly write up the highlights of the last week so I remember them and maybe expand on them tonight when I get home. But probably I won't, because I'm slack.

Oh yes, you should read this story which is quite funny!

Work's going well. I've still got a lot of paperwork to sort out such as opening a business account (HSBC are annoying) and registering for VAT etc. But the job itself is nice. Technical and Interesting, I like that.

We had drinks with...

Back To Work

Submitted by TiM on

Today was my first day of work as a self-employed person. It was a pretty good day too, the contract is interesting and there's going to be a lot of great stuff to work on in the coming months. As much as I loved Telstra, I know I've done the right thing by taking this role. Well, I don't know for sure, it might close up tomorrow. But I'm glad I've done it. You know what I mean.

I had to go back to the Hospital on Saturday. I went to a different Hospital though because the Hammersmith Hospital doesn't...

Back At Home

Submitted by TiM on

I'm back at home, got back from the Hospital yesterday. They were going to let me out on Tuesday night if I really wanted to go, but I was happy to stay one more night just to make sure I really was better.

I'm still very sore on my right side, the last day with just a single drain still in me was the worst though. I was in so much pain, even the Morphine machine didn't help my cause much. It was like 50 wasps were stinging me all at once in the bit where the drain went into me. I was so relieved when it was pulled out on Tuesday afternoon. I was really freaking out that pulling it out would hurt, but it never does. You just take a deep breath in and boom! they pull it out.

I'm glad to be home! Sarah ran me a...

I Love To Have A Beer With Morphine...

Submitted by TiM on

...Cause Morphine's Me Mate. Ok not really my mate, but I am glad for the little button I can press when my lung is really hurting me. Which annoying happens at about 3am in the morning.

Friday morning I woke up early because the tea lady was banging around and everyone was coughing and hacking. They wheeled me down for Surgery at about 8am and didn't even tell me when they were going to knock me out. The lady was talking to me and said "We have to put a few needles in you, this might sting a bit" and the next thing I knew I was out cold. Then waking up in the recovery room.

If you're not interested in medical details, don't:

The recovery room wakeup wasn't exactly the best. I was woken up and then the person waking me said "There's a lot of bleeding here!"...

Choperation Time!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from my Custom Technology Centre Bed where I am currently recovering from a case of delicious curry. Honestly, it's worth coming into Hammersmith Hospital just for the food. I'm not joking, it's very very tasty.
Though no more food for me now, it's operation time tomorrow to fix up the Bung Lung so now it's fasting time.

I rang into Hospital this morning at 9:30am as instructed to find out what time I had to check in. When I'd spoken to them a couple of weeks earlier they'd told me I'd be able to come in during the afternoon. However the nurse I spoke to this morning said if I wasn't in my bed by 11am I'd loose it!

I was a bit pissed off about that, I had to rush out of work saying goodbye as quickly as possible to a bunch of people. I'll go back next...

Big Things For Monday!

Submitted by TiM on

What a BIG day yesterday was because two very important things happened.

Number One on the "Important Things" list is that I got a haircut. This was vitally important because before the haircut, I looked like a homeless person (who hadn't had a haircut in a while)
Sarah had noticed a new barber shop opening up a week or two ago, so I headed down there after work and got what is probably the best haircut I've ever had. He must have spent about 20 minutes making sure it was perfectly straight, there were none of those annoying "sticky uppy" bits. Speaking of "unnecessary quotes", I love "this site".
Second on the list of important things is the fact that...

I resigned from Telstra!

Which is interesting, as I've only been here for 5 or 6 weeks. It feels like a lot longer though, I think I've really settled...

On Call!

Submitted by TiM on

I'm back on call again, after a few years of not being on call. It's been a good weekend though, I haven't actually HAD any calls, making the whole thing seem rather good. It does tend to limit us a bit though, I keep thinking I better not go to far from home in case I do get called and need to jump in front of a laptop.
We've had a very quiet weekend all round, the weather hasn't been very nice to us and Sarah's still getting over the cold that I had last weekend.

At the moment I'm in front of the computer burning TV shows to DVD, ready for my hospital stink this Thursday/Friday and who-knows how much of the weekend. It should be a very quick visit, hoping to be there only a couple of nights. But last time I was there I ran out of...
