Nice Henge

Submitted by TiM on

Arrgh! Wednesday and I'm writing an update, I can't believe how quickly time flys before I realise I'm way behind in updating the ol' diary yet again. Where to start even?
Monday through to Wednesday last week I was very, very crook. I must have picked up the flu on Friday night when I was out with all the Vanco people, as I know two others were off during the week as well with the same thing.

It wasn't just a regular cold, this was the flu proper. I've still got a runny nose and a cough and it's 10 days later, though I'm back at work now. Poor Sarah however has just picked it up, she's at home today in bed not feeling very well at all. We're not having a good run with colds and flu’s at the moment!

Apart from being ill most of last week, it...

Rinse and Repeat

No story icon today because it's too hard to pick them. I really should add a few more.

You'll all be pleased to know that lovely Sarah is uploading (or will be, very soon) some new photos! Very exciting, I'm looking forward to seeing them myself.

The poor girl is still a bit ill with a very bad cough. So we've just stayed in the for weekend, minus a few trips out by myself to get things. Hopefully she'll be better soon, I've just given her some more cough medicine to help ease the coughing.

So yes! Not a real lot to report. I went out on Friday night with a bunch of Vanco people. That of course was the best thing about working at Vanco, the neat people I worked with. It was really nice to see everyone again, catch up and see how everyone's doing.

Looking forward to...

Winter Wonderland

It's Christmas Time! That's right, December is here so it's almost time for me to put a really stupid Christmas theme up on my website. I might wait a few more weeks before I do that though, to minimise the eyesore.

Last week was a good week at work, not a real lot exciting to tell you. I got my VAT registration certificate which was sort of exciting in that dull British-Tax-System way.

This means I can now officially charge Value Added Tax to people. Which is all fine and dandy, but then I just have to turn around and pay it myself. One what hand giveth and all that.

Saturday Sarah and I just stayed home, Sarah's got a nasty chest infection which has been making her feel unwell. So it was just a quiet day at home, I tuned The Server a bit and Sarah watched movies. It...

Eddie Izzard

Submitted by TiM on

We went and saw Eddie Izzard on Saturday Night at the Lyric Theatre in London. It was one of these words. We had a great time, laughed lots and left with a big smile.

We went and got dinner afterwards in China Town. It was so cold in London Town on Saturday night, and Sunday morning. There was snow on Sunday morning, though only a little bit of it.
We spent the whole day at home Sunday, it was so cold and freezing outside, howling cold wind and rain. It was just easier to stay inside.

This morning I had to go out to "The O2", which also used to be known as the Millennium Dome. It's be, it's dome like. It wasn't the dome I was there to see, rather the building next to it which is the building I am designing the network for. We had to...

The Week's Nearly Over

Submitted by TiM on

We've had a good week, we've booked our Christmas holiday away and this year we're going to Iceland! It should be lots of fun, though we're not going to get to see Puffins! even though they are the coolest thing ever. They're going to be hibernating and Sarah assures me we shouldn't stick our hands down the Puffin nest to try and pat one.

Other "exciting" things this week can be read here in my other story of today, which requires a login sorry.

It's Eddie Izzard weekend this weekend, we've got very good seats (so I'm told by the Ticketek guy anyway) to his show and the reviews for it are very positive. Sarah loves his standup, I haven't really watched much of it but what I have seen is really funny. So Saturday night promises to be quite a good night.

I'm sitting back late at work at...

Brighton

Submitted by TiM on

We caught the train out to Brighton yesterday, just to see what it was like. Really nice, as it turns out, even though the weather wasn't really on our side. At least it didn't rain, so we can't complain to much.

We walked down to the Beach and saw a massive pier. We couldn't be bothering going all the way out to it though, it was the middle of the day and let's face it, a pier is a pier. Even though it did have a Ferris Wheel and other exciting looking things.

We walked around town for a couple of hours, we found a really nice little Indian themed garden (A gift to Brighton from Indian for their war efforts) and spent some time in that taking photos. I'm sure they'll be online soon! We found a street market and spent some time looking at that, Sarah took a...

I've Been Working A Month!

Submitted by TiM on

Hard to believe but I've been working at TfL for a whole month now. It's going really well, I'm enjoying it and it's challenging work. I'm learning good technical skills and I'm also getting good experience with my writing and reporting skills.

Tuesday night we all met up at Boys to say Goodbye to Kelly. It was her last night in London and we had a great Thai meal. The only fly in the ointment was when we left and had to pay the bill. It was the usual thing, everyone paid but they claimed to be £12 sort. Which we'd have been OK with, if they could have told us what hadn't been paid for (they'd been crossing off each item as people paid). Instead they made up random dishes none of us had ordered and all sorts of other strange stuff. We think that the lady taking the...

One Hell Of a Training Exercise

Submitted by TiM on

Scotland! What a bonnie wee place it is.

I left work early on Friday and met up with Sarah and Kelly at Kings Cross Station. We hopped on the train and got our seats. That in itself was a milestone.
You see, we booked our tickets online with TheTrainLine.com - I'm not giving those pack of wankers a working link.

Sarah made sure to book a specific train where we got 3 seats together at a table. When our tickets arrived, they were just simple "get on any train" tickets, no seat bookings. So I'd rung up during the week and had them book us seat reservations. They'd mailed out the bookings to us, but only for the outwards journey.

It was 4 hours to Scotland but it was a fairly decent train trip. There's power and wifi, I had my PSP, Sarah had her iPod, Kelly had books. We...

So Much Stuff

Submitted by TiM on

So a quick run down of this week!
Tuesday night we out out for dinner, it was Mark's surprise birthday party. A whole bunch of people met at an Italian Resturant in central London. Really nice food, a great night.
Wednesday night we decided on a bit of a late-minute thing to go and see the musical The Lion King. It's been years since I saw a big musical on stage and I'd forgotten just how amazing they really are.

The whole thing was really, really good. The stage were so incredible, the way they can do all these super colours and shiny lights etc. Plus the animal costumes, the jokes. We had a great night. It helped that I'd never seen the movie I think, though probably it wouldn't have made a difference.

This afternoon we get on a train and head up to Edinburgh to see Scotland vs...
