Relaxation

Submitted by TiM on

We're taking it easy today, the same as we did yesterday actually! Today was by design though, yesterday was by force because everything was closed. We walked around the town today and did a bit of shopping, we managed to get up close and look at the Church. We're both very disappointed because it's covered with scaffolding. You can still go up it, but we didn't bother because the sign says you can't even look out over the city. Plus it was such a gloomy day you couldn't have seen much anyway.

Last night was a bit of a flap, a few day previous I'd gone to the travel agent to book a Northern Lights tour for the 1st Jan. There was a choice of two tours, the £50 "get on a bus with 60 other people" option, or the £expensive "only 4 people in a nice car, plus lobster...

Crappy New Year!

Submitted by TiM on

Happy New Year 2009 everyone! It's a very wet and miserable day here in Reykjavik, all it's done all day is rain and it's freezing cold. I guess we can't complain, it's not like we were expecting 30 degrees and sunny.

We went out for dinner last night to a restaurant we found that was open. Lots of them were closed, so we were lucky to get a booking somewhere. We picked a pretty bad place though, the waitress told us the Chef was having a meltdown in the kitchen. Our starters took a little over an hour to come...

Snowmobile Action - Happy New Year 2009!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello on New Years Eve in Reykjavik! It’s a bit boring really because everywhere has shut down, we only just managed to get ourselves some coffee and breakfast this morning. It was nice to sleep in though after our day yesterday. Plus it’s so easy to sleep in, given that it doesn’t really start to get light until about 10:30 or so.

Picking up from my last diary entry, on Monday night we went to the Seafood Cellar, a very flash restaurant in the city centre. It was so hard to find, we were walking around for ages and I was getting more and more stressed as our 9:30pm booking time was fast approaching. Once found it was certainly worth it, it was such lovely food. We had the best starter I’ve ever had (Quail, the poor cute Quail. So tasty!), followed by Lamb for me and Lobster for Sarah...

Second Day In Iceland

Submitted by TiM on

It's our second day in Iceland and I must say, we haven't seen a real lot of ice so far. It's icy cold, but not really that much more than London was on the day we left.

Getting out of London was a bit of a stress, first the tube problem, and then once we were actually checked in, we were late to the boarding gate! We made it with a few minutes to spare.

Once we arrived in Iceland we checked through customs, this time they had to re-open a customs booth for us, we'd been shopping in the duty free and everyone else must have checked through. Another stamp in the passports, not a very exciting one which is a pity.
Once we collected our bags we had to catch the FlyBus into Reykjavík, the International airport is about 50km out of the city. Getting on the bus...

Arrgh! Farking Tube!

Submitted by TiM on

The damn tube. I love it, it's fun, but when it craps out on the way to the airport, it's miserable.
We were happily heading towards Heathrow when the tube stopped for an extended period at Hounslow West station. After 5 minutes the driver came on and apologised and said they were searching a train at the next station for someone's luggage.

10 minutes later and we're starting to panic a little, our plane was leaving in 2 hours. 5 minutes later the driver comes on and says that trains are starting to reverse up the line now due to...

Last Day In Halifax

Submitted by TiM on

It's our last day in Halifax today. We took the hire back this morning with about 3 minutes to spare, the guy was a bit put out I think but tough luck, we got there in time, full tank of gas and no dents! What more can any hire car place ask for?

Yesterday we had a fairly lazy day until it was decided we'd all go for a walk. We headed out and along the road, then diverted down through a farmers property. It's a public path but I think the farmer makes it as inaccessable as he possible can to deter the most number of people. Before we knew it we were going through a massive bog, mud everywhere. It was lots of fun, except for a few people (including poor Sarah) who didn't have boots on.
It was a really nice walk though, the only think spoiling...

Merry Christmas 2008!

Submitted by TiM on

Merry Christmas everyone! Happy Boxing Day as well. We're all sitting around today watching TV and keeping warm from the the freezing weather outside. It's not snowing in Halifax, but it's very chilly outside.

We had a great Christmas Day yesterday, I got Motorbike Lessons for Christmas! It's something I've wanted to do for ages and I've always been meaning to get around to booking some lessons, but I never have. So I'm very excited to get to do some. I'm sure Jeremy will just think I'm copying him though!

I got Sarah a new handbag and an iPhone for Christmas. I'm hoping the iPhone will mean she keeps it charged all the time so I have a better chance of being able to ring her, quite often her phone is flat but her iPod is always charged. Now she has two in one! And a flash handbag to keep...

On The Train Again

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from the train to Leeds! We're heading up to Halifax for Christmas, I'm so glad we're on the train intact.
I came down with another flu Saturday night. At 9pm I was fine, by midnight I was very sick! Sunday afternoon Sarah came down with the same thing, so we were both feeling very sorry for ourselves as we were packing our bags. We have way to many bags, mostly due to all the presents we're taking up for family members. We even had to leave some of the ones for us behind, but that'll just mean we get another mini Christmas Day on our return.

This morning on the way to the station was a bit of a stress too, Sarah thought she'd lost her ipod, but a quick rush back home and it was located. There was a bit of a panic because we thought we'd miss...

Another Year Ends

Submitted by TiM on

Woohoo! Another working year is over. I finished up at TfL yesterday until the New Year. Two weeks of lovely time off. Although I'd almost rather be working, because we don't get paid when we're not!

I caught up with Julian D on Thursday night, he's made it over to London for a bit of an adventure. Was good to see him, even if only for a couple of hours. I'm sure we'll catch up again in the New Year though.

We bought a GPS the other day. The one we had for Bath was very handy, so we thought rather than pay to hire one again while we're in Halifax, we might as well just buy one. They cost £90, vs £8 a day to hire one. Plus we can customise it, which was the first thing we did. We now have Eddie Izzard giving us driving directions...
