From "Snow!" to "We can't get work, there's so much snow!"

Submitted by TiM on

We woke up this morning and boy, was there a lot of snow. It makes the snow in the photo Sarah took last night look stupid.

We looked at the Tube Status online and could see lots of problems, but the lines we needed to get to work were still working, damnit.

So off we trudged down to the Tube station.

Trudged wasn't really the right word for it though, slid was a better word. The ground was covered in snow, it was impossible to tell where the road ended and the pavement started. It took us about 10 minutes of careful walking to get to the tube station, it was half shut and a lot of people were standing around looking rather miffed, because trains weren't running out to Heathrow.

We got on the Tube and set off. What a hellish journey it was, it was going very slowly...

Snow!

Submitted by TiM on

There's heaps of snow in London tonight. I went up to Morrison's (the local supermarket, it's fantastic...) at lunchtime to purchase a few things. On the way back home I was walking through a snow storm! Maybe storm's a little bit of a strong word, but it was snowing.

Tonight we've had Ruth around for dinner, Sarah cooked awesome roast Lamb with Moroccan seasoning. Ruth brought Chocolate cake and custard for dessert. It was well good, as they say in Yorkshire.

When we said goodbye to Ruth and went outside, the street was covered in snow! All the cars, all the road and pavement. We're hoping it'll be so snowy during the night we won't be able to go to work tomorrow, but I doubt it'll be that bad. Alas.

Here's a photoSarah took of our street earlier tonight.

Saturday Night

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from Saturday Night at our place. We've being boring tonight and have outsourced the cooking duties to 3 Spice, our favourite Indian restaurant. We could probably have had Sarah's super-special pizza for the 3rd night in a row, but that just seems silly.
She's invented this awesome little recipe that makes the best pizzas ever. She should probably patent the idea and sell it to Pizza Hut or someone similar, because the Pizzas are that good. I'd tell you more details, but then the secret will be out in public and we can't have that.

We're pretty sure we've got the perfect spot for the wedding all sorted out now. Our New Zealand scouts have been out and about taking photos for us and reporting back. A special big thanks to our NZ Scouts, Sarah's Mum and Dad!

It's been a fairly standard week at work, it was one...

Portobello Road

Submitted by TiM on

We went to Portobello Road today, just to do a bit of shopping. We walked around for a while trying to find something to eat. After a few walk-in, walk-outs we eventually stumbled on "Garden and Grill", a little Thai place that was actually like being in Thailand. It was setup on a deck overlooking the street, but with plastic sheeting to keep the rain out and heaters to keep us warm. It was a very basic setting though, just like the restaurants in Thailand are like. It was really nice, the food was really good too.

Then we had a look around the area at all the cool shops. It's a really nice area, lots of quirky shops and stalls. It wasn't market day though, I bet it's 20 times crazier with all the cool stalls that are there.

It was a good day though, it's nice to get...

Supermarket Shopping

Submitted by TiM on

I went up to the supermarket before, to get some stuff for dinner. I was looking at what I thought were sweet potatoes, but I wasn't sure. There was an old lady looking at them too, so I asked her if they were indeed sweet potatoes
"Oh yes dear, these are sweet potatoes. So are these ones here", she pointed, "but they're twice as expensive". They were organic ones, so I decided against them too as they were also pretty small. I piled 3 of the cheapies into my basket and was about to walk on.
"You'll need a bag" she said and thrust a plastic bag at me. Obviously thinking I'd never been in a supermarket before.

Went to Karate today, I'm back training properly again. I hope in a few months time to grade to at least blue belt with tips. I'm the slowest Karate grader ever. It's...

MacBook Mania

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah's shiny new MacBook Pro has arrived. It's very shiny and nice and I'm quite jealous. My laptop is looking rather old and busted in comparison. Though I have just given it a new lease of life by cleaning all the fluff out its cooling fan. It was always heating up and not working, silly me. Once you remove the equivalent of at least 3 belly buttons worth of fluff, it runs nice and cool again and works properly.
Sarah's new laptop is very lovely though. Did I mention I'm jealous?

I've started back at Karate, finally. I went on...

The Weeks That Have Been

Submitted by TiM on

Get back from Holiday and forget all about updating poor ol' diary again. Poor thing.
It's been a good couple of weeks. I've started to practise my chef skills. By skills of course, I mean my ability to follow simple instructions from a cookbook. Which have, most of the time, worked quite well. There hasn't been any major disasters, unless you count the state of the kitchen after I've finished in there.

Thus far I think my biggest success has been the Marmalade Chicken that I cooked for dinner on Saturday night. It turned out really well I though, though the potato mash that I made up to go along with it maybe not so well. I promise that Marmalade Chicken was a real recipe too, really.

I used to like cooking when I was younger, but I never really was much good at it. I remember my lovely chocolate...

Subject: Storage

Hello,
I recently purchased a bottle of Ocean Spray "Cranberry Classic" juice drink. It comes in a large bottle and is very tasty.

However, I have a bit of a problem. It says on the side of the bottle "After opening, store this product in your refridgerator and use within 4 days"

I don't own a refridgerator. Is it OK to use someone elses?

Thanks,

Dear AC,

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact Ocean Spray.

All chilled Ocean Spray products sold in the UK are only sold in cartons...

Blocked Ear

Submitted by TiM on

I have a blocked ear (too much wax), it's really annoying. I'm going to go to the Dr's later today to get them flushed out.
No story, but just to let people know that Sarah's uploaded the heap of photos from our various travels and things. So head immediately to Flickr for maximum entertainment.

WTF? Snow?

Submitted by TiM on

It was our last day in Reykjavik yesterday so we decided to leave in style. We packed up our bags, paid our hotel bill and jumped on the bus out to the airport! But it was also the bus back to the Blue Lagoon, and it was there that we wanted to go for another dip in the calming, healing waters. Well I don't really know if they're calming or healing, but they're warm and blue and that's all we really cared about.

It was a nice way to end our trip, chill out in the warm water for 45 minutes, then relax and have something to eat in the restaurant, before finally heading to the airport a few hours later.

Our plane ride back was as uneventful as the plane ride over. Iceland Air kinda sucks, they charge you for headphones if you don't have your own. They make...
