Everyone's Here.

Submitted by TiM on

I went out to Heathrow last night to meet Sallee and Bill at arrivals. It was jammed with people, I've never seen such a stream of people pouring out of an airport before. It took ages (I can only imagine what it must have been like inside) but eventually out they came. I'd already been talking to Sarah who'd flown back safely a bit earlier into Gatwick.

I took them back to Acton and checked them into the Acton Town Hotel. I was a bit hesitant, but I'd already been in a month earlier to book a room for them and to see what they were like. However the lady took us out the back to an annex, so I was really worried the room would be shit (they have pretty average reviews online) but it was bigger and nicer than the one she'd shown me when I booked. Phew...

Flights Incoming

Submitted by TiM on

Two incoming flights today. Mother dearest and Bill arrive tonight at Heathrow, Sarah arrives tonight into Gatwick! Sarah, having finished work last week, headed off to Copenhagen on Sunday for a few days to look around. So I've been looking after myself the last couple of days, it's been difficult.

13 days to go, 2 and a bit more days of work.

T-Minus 20 Days

It's getting so close!!

I was in the travel store the other day, having just finished work, buying a crapload of mosquito repellant equipment. As you do. Just as I was about to leave, the skies opened up. I don't just mean rain, or even heavy rain. This was the most amazing downpour I have ever seen. One minute the streets were dry, the next they were so flooded that people were actually screaming, there was thunder and lightning and then massive hail stones.

After about 10 minutes it pretty much stopped. So I tried to get into Victoria station, which by this stage had water coming into the entrances. Awesome! I just managed to get into the main part of the station and admire the water pissing in through the "roof", before they shutdown the whole station and ordered us all out.

It was a pretty crazy 10 minute...

Two years ago today!

It was two years ago today that we landed in sunny London. It was actually sunny too, I remember meeting Maggie and Andy again and sitting out the back of their house in the sun. What a lot has happened since then! We’re only 21 days away from flying out to what will be extra sunny Africa.

There still seems like so much to do, but we’re actually doing a pretty good job of getting on top of it all. We had 15+ boxes and a bunch of bubble wrap arrive on Friday. We’ve packed about 4 cartons and it’s already making a difference. The shelves are empty, the upstairs “loft” area has half as much stuff. There’s just bugger all room left in the lounge, but what can you expect?

Sarah bought herself a shiny new camera on the weekend, a beastie looking Canon 50D. It’s quite awesome and...

Sunday

Lazy Sunday today. Garry the Landlord came over, he's getting everything ready for our move out. Then we went over to Maggie and Andy's for dinner, which was super tasty, as it always is. Andy's such a great chef, even simple things are really, really tasty.

It's so sticky and hot here today, and apparently it's going to keep that up for the next 5 days. The BBC says its' going to be 30+, 5 days straight. People will be melting on the tube, Sarah and I included! Woohoo London! Only 30 more days...

Rock 'N' Roll Train

So we went to see AC/DC on Friday night and they did not disappoint at all! We got there with a bit of time to spare, it seemed that every person getting off at the Wembley Park Tube Station had on a AC/DC T-Shirt, or in some cases the full Angus consume.

I met up with Sarah and we headed off to the show...
Don't read anymore if you're planning on seeing the show, spoilers ahead!

Once we got out of the station there was a sea of people walking towards the stadium. It's just one big straight avenue all the way from the station of the stadium, lined either side with hot dog vendors, burger joints and all that sort of stuff. Sarah lined up in the T-Shirts line while I went and got us a couple of crappy overpriced burgers. After waiting in line for about 30 minutes...

La Garde Freinet, Part Two

Oops, just realised I forgot to update my last entry where I hadn't put the place names! I've updated that now. Here's the latest entry, compiled over the last few days. It's a bit all over the place and I need to update it some more, but hey. I'll post it now so everyone can use it to put themselves to sleep at night.

Well here I am in the middle of nowhere sitting down waiting for 2 pizza's to be made, while watching the French sunset and having a beer. I must look like a starving French artist, with my laptop out sitting on a wooden bench typing away to no one but myself. But hey, it's a good chance to catch up on my diary!

So the last entry was just before we headed into St. Tropaz. Which is pronounced Santra-Pay apparently, I still think Saint Tro-paz sounds...

Life in the South of France.

Hello from the South of France. We're in a tiny little village called La Garde Freinet. We flew in yesterday from Gatwick Airport, flying on EasyJet. They actually lived up to their name yesterday, there was a huge queue at the checkin desk but they had this really efficient system of checkin desks. From the time we lined up to the time we had our boarding pass was about 10 minutes, which is amazing. Even BA or Qantas isn't that fast at getting you your boarding pass.

Our flight over was fairly uneventful. Except for the fact I sat next to this guy who, while a nice bloke, drowned me with spittle the whole time he was talking. I'd say he was a professional talker to, because he knew how to talk. He chewed my ear off for about an hour, after which I was coated in a fine mist...
