Jervois Steak House

Submitted by TiM on

We went to JSH last night and we all agreed it was one of the best meals ever. It was just the three of us, but we had a great time. Their byline is "The steak house to end all arguments" and I'd have to agree. It really was that good.
I ate way to much (we all did) and had crazy dreams all night. I don't even feel the slightest bit hungry this morning.

Dad's in Auckland

Submitted by TiM on

Went and picked Dad up from the airport last night, after a couple of minor detours where I got us lost on the way out there. Everything's all changed around, though I'm sure I followed the same route the airbus did a few weeks back. Obviously I didn't though.

Got him checked into his Motel. It's actually quite a decent sized room and they weren't grabbing for the credit card within 2 seconds of arriving, which I find pretty amazing.

We walked up to The Gables, the local pub for us in Herne Bay (that isn't full of wankers) and had a pint and a feed. Nice to be sitting inside the pub watching the joggers instead of the other way around.

In other news, it's still hot and muggy in Auckland and our landlord is still one of the most useless fucking people on the planet earth.

Wonky Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

Hello Diary,
How are you today? Feeling neglected I suppose, sorry about that.

Totally mental weekend, glad that it's over really. Monday morning coffee is very tasty today. We did some shopping yesterday, got Sarah a brand new bike for her birthday. Well she had to get it herself really, but there's no point me trying to guess a good bike for a triathlon.

The train prices are going up. It doesn't bother me to much, the service these days is so much better than it ever was before.

My stupid iPod has died. It boots up fine, you can copy music to it fine. Soon as you unplug it, it reboots and thinks it's brand new with no music again. Annoying as all hell. I have a little 2gb player Sarah got me for Christmas a few years back. It's not great, but at least it plays music and...

Well, I Tried Folks

Email to Boags:

Hello! I'm wondering if it's possible to get James Boags Premium in New Zealand?
Well in fact, I know that it's currently not possible. But I'm getting married in March and due to circumstances (marrying a Kiwi!) the wedding is in New Zealand.

Now as a proud Tasmanian, it doesn't seem right to have a wedding without at least a case of two of JBP available for all my other proud Tasmanian friends who'll be flying over to enjoy. Plus it never hurts to show the Kiwis how to make real beer. But don't tell them I...

AC/DC (Again)

Submitted by TiM on

We saw the legends of rock again last night. It was a good show, though pretty much exactly same show that we saw in London. Plus poor old Brian's voice really seems to be suffering, he missed bits all over the place. But in the grand scheme it didn't matter, it was still an awesome show and I think breaks my record for the most number of people I've ever seen in the same place at the same time.

Last weekend was Auckland anniversary weekend which was nice, it meant we got Monday off, which is always a bonus. We drove down to lovely Napier to do bits and pieces for our upcoming event! We also went to Holly and Adrian's engagement party which was a great night, really good fun. Live music and everything.
Sunday it pissed with rain so badly the Napier to Taupo road (our way home)...

UK Banking

Submitted by TiM on

Got on the phone last night after I made it home to Barclay's. What do you know, they still haven't received the 2nd letter we sent them asking for our money to be transferred. This time I wasn't going to take no for an answer though, so just kept saying to the lady "I understand you haven't got our letters. So let's ignore that and you tell me how I CAN transfer my money." After a lot of transfers and stuffing around, I actually got to speak to someone that could help me. So we actually got some money transferred. Amazing. Hopefully we never, ever have to deal with Barclay's Bank PLC Morons LTD again.

I took my Sony headphones back to Sony Style today, they'd started to fray and were only 2 weeks old. I thought I'd get a bit of hassle from them, but they replaced them straight...

Hobart Visit 2010!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from the floor in Sydney Airport. That's at least where I'm typing this, probably it won't be where I end up posting it because I don't have any Internet access here, try as I might to hack the many available wireless networks. It used to be easy in the old days, now days it's much more difficult.

I had a great weekend with Dad, who I hadn't seen in ages. As an extra bonus I also got to see Jeremy who I hadn't seen since 2005, which is super bloody ages!

I flew into Hobart on the Friday afternoon after what seemed like all day travelling. Dad was there waiting to pick me up, we then waited while the tiny baggage carousel kept jamming up with everyone's bags. What are people thinking, taking large bags on aeroplanes? No wonder the poor baggage machine couldn't cope.
Once they managed to...

Government warns World Cup stab vests useless against taxi fenders

Submitted by TiM on

JOHANNESBURG. A knife-proof vest being marketed to British tourists as a must-have item at the 2010 World Cup has been slammed by the South African government, which says it is completely pointless as most tourists killed will either be shot or run over by taxis. However, the country has recommitted itself to killing as few tourists as possible.

According to the BBC, the so-called stab vests are being marketed in the United Kingdom as essential security wear for the 2010 World Cup and cost up to $70.

However, this morning the South African government condemned the armoured items, describing them as alarmist, reactionary and discriminatory against people who earn a living through knife crime.

But, said spokesman Whiplash Mahlangu, the real outrage was how ineffective the vests would be in keeping tourists alive.

"We urge our visitors to remember that of the 1,500 South Africans who are murdered and the...

Nerdy Running Maps

Submitted by TiM on

Being the nerdy nerd I am, I take my GPS with me when I go running and then put the maps online. If you care (and really, why would you?) you can follow along with my latest fitness over there on the right hand side below the wedding clock (which is rapidly counting down, oh yea!).

Just got back from a quick run around the Auckland Domain. Hint for next time: Don't eat a superhot curry the night before.
