The Darwin's Beetle

Submitted by TiM on

This video is very funny, watch it all the way to the end!

Hello from the sick household. I'm pretty much over the flu but Sarah's still got it quite bad. I've been looking after her tonight, though it hasn't required much. Just the odd Lemsip now and then and a bowl of wedges. She'll be right as rain in a few days.

We did some more house hunting on the weekend. We thought we'd found one yesterday but after a bit more thinking about it, it's a maybe not. We'll wait and see, but I think we'll give it a miss. It's an auction as well and I don't want the hassle of getting building reports etc only to see the auction fall through and all that money wasted. Arrrgh it's so frustrating! I'm sure something nice will come along very soon.

Work's going well, there's lots of stuff...

Misty Mornings

Submitted by TiM on

There's fog all over Herne Bay this morning, I guess that Winter is well and truly on its way. At least our apartment stays pretty warm, all you have to do is cook dinner in the oven and the apartment heats up nice and toasty. Sometimes hotter than toasty.

I took our car out to get fixed yesterday, the "Check Engine" light kept coming on. I'd checked under the bonnet and the engine was still there, so with my technical expertise on the subject exhausted it had to go to someone who knew what they were doing. Turns out the knock sensor was poked and needed to be replaced. When it wasn't working the engine would into "Limp home" mode which wasn't much fun, because it was like driving a snail. It's all sorted now though and driving properly again.

Last Thursday night I went out with my mate Beatty...

Yip Festival

Submitted by TiM on

Early morning coffee required for my Yip festival this morning. A yip festival is when you have to go into work early so people can go "yip yip yip" about something that's really not worth going "yip yip yip" about. All good though, the switch software upgrade went smoothly last night so the network is trucking along very nicely this morning. I know you care about this stuff people, don't pretend like you don't.

House hunting has been going well. We've seen a whole bunch and we find ones that we like, but that then always have an issue of some sort.

There's the cross-leases. There's the no-storage-at-all's. There's the wiring-older-than-the-moon. There's the "no front door" though apparently that isn't a good reason to rule the house out. There's the dampness, the needs-major-repairs.

And of course the most annoying of all, the "It's perfect but it's too bloody expensive"

Then...

Busy Busy Week!

Submitted by TiM on

What a busy, busy week it's been! I'm glad that Tony is coming back next week because having to make lots of hard decisions isn't much fun! Especially when you know they're probably not long term.

But otherwise all good in the Harman household. We've been house hunting last weekend and will be again this weekend.

I've added a bunch of new icons to my site, all from the newest online comic site I've discovered called Savage Chickens. It's excellent, you should check it out.

Tasty Prawns

Submitted by TiM on

I went on an awesome training course for work yesterday. Read about it here (you'll need to login though.)

We cooked up our catch from the Prawn Farm last night, which was tasty. From the 9 we had though we didn't really get much of a meal between the two of us, even though three of them were fairly large little prawnies. I'm a bit torn between how cute prawns are when they're alive vs how tasty they are in garlic butter.

I suppose it's just like cows and chickens though, they're both cute and very tasty. It's a shame...

Prawn Hunters

We went down to Napier for Easter and had a lovely time there. Napier was, as it always is (unless you're getting married) sunny and lovely. We sorted out our storage locker and a few other bits and pieces.

The most exciting thing though was our trip back up to Auckland yesterday, where we stopped off again at the Prawn Park. Last time we'd been we didn't catch any. This time however things were different!

We started off the same as last time, a bunch of nibbles and they'd take the line "walking" but we couldn't reel one in. Then Sarah finally pulled one in and boy was it a big one!.

I then countered that catch with this little ripper of a prawn.

After some discussion and comparing of notes, we came up with what we thought was the winning formula for prawn catching and it seemed...

Comment Problems / Happy Easter!

Sorry if you've tried to post a comment recently and you keep getting the characters in the spam filter wrong. There was a bug in the diary code where it'd only show you 3 letters, but was expecting an answer of 4! I've patched the code and you can comment now.

You can of course always just login, then you don't need to enter any silly codes.

Happy Easter!

Sewing Machine Superbness

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah bought a sewing machine on Saturday. She was very excited by the whole prospect, in fact we'd even gone to Spotlight the weekend before to scope out all the different new models. In the end she decided to get a uber one off TradeMe instead, a real beast second hand model.

So of course, Sunday required another trip to Spotlight to purchase things for the sewing machine. Cotton, fluff, pins, all manner of things I don't understand. Then Sarah found some cool material with chickens printed on it. She, jokingly, suggested making something out of said material.
I did not see this as a joke, I saw this as a great opportunity to own the worlds finest pair of chicken pyjamas. We even explained what the purchase of the chicken cover material to the checkout lady. You could tell she was thinking "Werido!".

Monday night Sarah got to work...
